Chair/Moderator Information

First, and importantly, every session has one individual assigned to chair with the exception of roundtable sessions.  See below if you are listed as chair on a roundtable session.

Information for chairs (except Roundtables)

Getting Started

Every conference session has a unique Zoom URL. You can view these by visiting Humanities Commons’ ACH2021 group (https://hcommons.org/groups/ach-2021/). Links will be available a minimum of 30 minutes before the session. Note: you must be added as a member of the Humanities Commons group to get access to the conference materials. Please make sure to check and ensure you have access by MONDAY the 19th.

  • One of the members of the ACH Infrastructure Committee (Linda Garcia Merchant, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, or Santi Thompson) will open the room 15 minutes prior to the start of the session
  • Arrive in your zoom room 10-15 minutes early to admit panelists and the audience. You can admit individually or as groups (https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115000332726-Waiting-Room)
  • As panelists are admitted:
  • Please note that these sessions should not be recorded by anyone.
  • At the start of the session, please identify yourself in the chat and verbally as the session chair. You should also introduce the session including:
    • The title of panel
    • Name of each presenter
    • Presenter affiliation
    • Title of presentation
  • Please post the following notes in the chat so that all audience members can view:
    • “ACH2021 would like to remind you that this event is governed by the Conference Code of Conduct (https://ach2021.ach.org/ach-conference-code-of-conduct/). Audience members should mute their microphone unless they are asking a question. We encourage you to post your questions in the chat as well. Audience members are also welcome to mute their video should they wish.
    • In the event of zoom-bombing or other issue that requires the panel stop, we will close the zoom room and post a new link in the conference schedule. As a reminder, every conference session has a unique Zoom URL. You can view these by visiting Humanities Commons’ ACH2021 group (https://hcommons.org/groups/ach-2021/). Note: You must be added as a member of the Humanities Commons group to get access to the conference materials.”
  • For the presentation portion:
    • Please have presenters offer their presentations in the order listed in the program. Individual presentations should be 10-15 minutes maximum in a three-presentation session. All questions should be held until after ALL presenters have completed their presentations.
  • For the question and answer portion:
    • Encourage people to use chat feature
    • Encourage people to raise hands
    • Remind folks to place links in chat
  • Concluding content:
    • Remind attendees that they can continue session’s discussion on Humanities Commons
  • In the event of a Zoom bombing:

If you encounter a problem during your session, please immediately email ach2021@ach.org. That email is staffed by members of the steering committee who can launch new zoom rooms, address code of conduct issues, and other logistical matters.
